A hashtag is a word or phrase after a # sign that groups posts on the same topic.
On many platforms it makes a post discoverable in a topic feed or search. Specific tags describe the post better than very broad ones, which are crowded.

Use a small number that really fit the content, and write multi-word tags in camel case, such as #SocialMediaTips, so screen readers can read them. Tag habits differ by platform, so check what is normal on each.
Mix a few specific tags with one or two broader ones, and avoid tags you do not understand, since a tag can have a meaning you did not expect. Check the tag page before using it and see what kind of posts appear there.
