First comment

A first comment is a comment you add under your own post right after it goes live.

People use it to keep the caption clean, for example by putting hashtags, a link or extra context in the first comment instead of the main text. It can also seed a conversation with a question.

First comment in practice

Whether it helps depends on the platform, and nobody outside the platforms can promise a reach benefit. Use it when it makes the post easier to read, not as a trick.

Keep first comments short and write them as a real comment, not a block of tags. If a platform does not allow editing the post text after publishing, the first comment is also a safe place to add a correction or an extra link.
