RSS to social media: post new feed items automatically
RSS to social media is a setup where SocialPatra reads an RSS feed on a schedule and turns every new item into a post on the accounts you choose.
Plan: Professional and up
Point SocialPatra at your blog or any news feed. When a new item appears, it becomes a post with the title, a link back to the source and, if the item has one, its image.
You decide what happens next: save each post as a draft to review, or let it publish on its own. It is blog to social media automation without copying links by hand.
How to auto post an RSS feed to social media
- Add the feed. Open RSS Feeds in your workspace, give the feed a name and paste its URL.
- Test the feed. Use the test button next to the URL. SocialPatra fetches the feed and shows a preview of the latest items, so you know the URL works before you save.
- Choose the accounts. Tick the connected accounts that should receive the posts. A feed needs at least one.
- Pick draft or auto-publish. Choose Save as Draft or Auto Publish, and how often the feed is checked.
- Save and let it run. Save the feed. You can pause it at any time and switch it back on later.

Post an RSS feed to Bluesky, Mastodon and other accounts
Each feed has its own list of target accounts, so one feed can post to Bluesky and Mastodon while another goes only to a blog platform. You can pick any connected, active account except TikTok, which is always published by hand.
Each post is shortened at a word boundary to fit the account it goes to, for example 300 characters on Bluesky and 500 on Mastodon.
Drafts or auto-publish
| Mode | What SocialPatra does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Save as Draft | Creates a draft post per account and waits for you | Feeds you want to review first |
| Auto Publish | Publishes right away, or at the start of your next posting window | Your own blog or a feed you trust |
Posting windows let you limit auto-publishing to the days and hours you pick, in a timezone you choose.
How often the feed is checked
| Option | How often |
|---|---|
| Real-time | Every 5 minutes |
| Every Hour | Once an hour |
| Daily | Once a day, at midnight |
To avoid flooding your accounts, a feed is limited to a number of posts per check, with a short pause between posts. Items older than the maximum age (30 days unless you change it) are ignored.
How duplicates are avoided
SocialPatra remembers every item it has handled for a feed. An item is identified by its feed URL, guid and link, not its date, so a publisher re-dating an old article does not cause it to be posted again.
Two checks running at the same moment cannot both post the same item. If posting an item fails, it is retried on a later check.
- Include keywords: only items whose title or description match one of them are posted.
- Exclude keywords: items that match are skipped.
- Minimum word count: skip very short items.
What happens with images
SocialPatra looks for an image in the item: first its media attachment, then the first picture in the item text. If it finds one, the post goes out with that image. If not, it goes out as text.
You can also ask for an AI-made image for each post. It is off by default, uses one AI media credit per post, and posts go out without an image when your credits run out.
Control the post text
- A content template sets the wording, with a different version per platform if you want.
- The link back to the item is added by default.
- Optional UTM tracking adds a source, medium and campaign to the link.
- Hashtags can be added, with a count you choose.
- AI options (rewrite, hashtags, image) are set per feed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I post an RSS feed to social media?
Add the feed URL in RSS Feeds, test it, choose at least one connected account and pick draft or auto-publish. SocialPatra then checks the feed and creates a post for each new item.
Can I auto post an RSS feed to Bluesky or Mastodon?
Yes. Connect your Bluesky or Mastodon account, then tick it as a target on the feed. Each post is shortened to fit the limit of the account it goes to.
Will each item be posted twice?
No. SocialPatra records every item it has handled for a feed and skips it on later checks, even if the publisher changes its date.
Can I review posts before they go live?
Yes. Choose Save as Draft and each new item becomes a draft you can edit and publish yourself.
Which plan includes RSS auto-posting?
