Choosing a Threads format: text, carousel, video or poll
A plain text post, up to 500 characters, is the default and often the best. Keep it to one idea and let the first line carry the point.
A carousel holds 2 to 20 items and you can mix images and video. It works for a short walkthrough, a set of examples or a before-and-after. Images are JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB each, and video is MP4 or MOV up to 1 GB and 5 minutes.
A poll is a text-only post with a question and at least two options. Scheduling one for the morning gives people the whole day to answer.
Video is the heaviest format, so allow time to export it before you schedule. A file over 1 GB or longer than 5 minutes will not be accepted, and it is easier to trim a clip in your editor than to discover the limit on the day you wanted it live.
One thing to know: SocialPatra does not schedule multi-part threads on Threads. Each scheduled item is a single post, so if you have a longer idea, write it as one post, or schedule several posts at different times.
Tips for scheduling Threads posts
- Write alt text on images. The composer has a field for it, and it makes the post usable for screen-reader readers.
- Spread posts out instead of publishing five in a row. A scheduler makes that easy: set a different time for each.
- Use a carousel when one image cannot tell the story, and a single image when it can.
