Thread splitter
A thread splitter cuts a long text into a series of posts, each under the character limit of the network you pick.
It cuts on sentence ends first, then on spaces, so a word is never split unless a single word is longer than the whole limit. Line breaks inside a post are kept.
The limits are the ones in the SocialPatra composer. X counts every link as 23 characters. For the other networks this tool has no special link rule, so links count at full length. Your text stays in this page and nothing is sent to a server.
Paste some text to split it into posts.
How to use the thread splitter
- Paste your text. Type or paste the long text into the box.
- Pick the network. Choose X, Threads, Bluesky or Mastodon. The posts re-split to the limit of that network.
- Copy the posts. Copy one post at a time, or copy all of them with a blank line between. Turn numbering off if you do not want 1/n at the end of each post.
Frequently asked questions
How does the splitter decide where to cut?
It fills each post with whole sentences. If a sentence does not fit, it fills the post with whole words. Only a single word longer than the limit is cut, and the post is marked when that happens.
Does numbering use up characters?
Yes. The " 1/n" at the end of each post counts toward the limit, and the tool leaves room for it, including when the thread grows past 9 or 99 posts.
Is my text saved or uploaded?
No. The splitting runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.
