Bluesky scheduler: schedule Bluesky posts and threads
To schedule Bluesky posts with SocialPatra, you connect with an app password, write the post or thread once, pick a date and time, and SocialPatra publishes it to your profile at that moment.

Bluesky connects with your handle and an app password, a separate password you create just for SocialPatra. Your real password is never used, and you can revoke the app password on Bluesky at any time.
Below: the setup, what a scheduled post can hold and the limits that matter on Bluesky.
A Bluesky scheduler earns its place when you post regularly but are not at your desk when the audience is. You write when you have time, queue the post, and it goes out when you chose. The same composer also sends to your other networks, so one piece of writing can reach Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon without three separate tabs.
This page is for solo writers and creators who keep a Bluesky profile next to a newsletter or a blog, and for agencies that run Bluesky accounts for clients, each client in its own workspace so accounts and posts never mix.
Connect Bluesky with an app password
- Create an app password on Bluesky. In Bluesky open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then App Passwords. Add one, name it SocialPatra and create it. Copy it, because Bluesky shows it once.
- Enter your handle and the password. In SocialPatra add Bluesky and enter your full handle, such as yourname.bsky.social, or your own domain if you use one, plus the app password.
- Self-hosting your data? Add the server. The PDS URL field is optional. Leave it blank unless you run your own Bluesky data server.
A wrong handle or password is rejected when you connect. To disconnect for good, delete the app password on the same Bluesky page.
How to schedule a Bluesky post
- Pick your Bluesky account in the composer. Select it, along with any other networks the post should go to.
- Write within 300 characters. Bluesky posts are limited to 300 characters. For longer thoughts, write a thread instead.
- Add images and alt text. Attach up to 4 images and describe each one with alt text.
- Pick the date and time. Choose when it should go live and save the post.
What a scheduled Bluesky post can contain
| Item | Supported |
|---|---|
| Post types | Text, image and thread posts. |
| Post length | Up to 300 characters. |
| Threads | Write several linked parts and schedule them as one. |
| Images | Up to 4 per post, JPEG, PNG or WebP, each up to 1 MB. |
| Alt text | One description per image. |
| Polls | Not supported. |
| Removing a published post | Supported from SocialPatra. |
Schedule a Bluesky thread
Bluesky gives you 300 characters per post, so anything longer is a thread. In SocialPatra you write each part in the composer, in order, and schedule the whole thread as one item. At the time you set, the parts are published as a connected thread on your profile.
Plan a thread the way you would plan a short article. Put the point of the whole thread in the first part, because that is the part most people see in the feed. Give each following part one idea. End on the part that tells people what to do next, such as a link to your newsletter.
Images follow the same limits as single posts: up to 4 per post, each with its own alt text. Writing alt text takes a few seconds in the composer and makes the post readable for people who use screen readers.
Tips for scheduling on Bluesky
- Keep images under 1 MB before you upload them. Bluesky is stricter here than most networks, so resize a large photo first.
- Write alt text for every image. It is the one field people skip when they post in a hurry, and a scheduler is the right place to do it calmly.
- Count characters while you write. A post that runs past 300 is a thread candidate, not something to squeeze.
- Use your app password only for SocialPatra. If you ever want to stop the connection, delete that one app password on Bluesky and nothing else changes.
- Check your queue before a busy week. Each scheduled post can be edited before it goes out, so a quick pass catches typos and stale links.
Build a Bluesky routine with the rest of SocialPatra
The composer can draft a post from an idea, some text or a link, with one editable draft for each account you pick. You still read and change every word before it is scheduled, which keeps Bluesky posts sounding like you.
If you plan a month at a time, bulk scheduling takes one CSV file, checks every row and shows you what is wrong before any post is created. Recurring posts repeat a post daily, weekly or monthly, which suits evergreen content such as a pinned introduction or a weekly roundup.
| Feature | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Bulk scheduling | Planning a month of posts in one spreadsheet. |
| Recurring posts | Repeating evergreen posts on a pattern you pick. |
| Social media automation tool | The overview of scheduling, drafting and publishing together. |
| Social media management tool | Teams, client workspaces and approvals. |
