Social media automation for developers
Social media automation for developers means publishing posts, articles and release news from code, a feed or an AI assistant instead of by hand in a dashboard.
Plan: Professional and up
SocialPatra gives engineering and developer-relations teams two ways in: a REST API with scoped keys for your own scripts, and a hosted MCP server for AI assistants.
It also connects to Dev.to and Hashnode, so one article can reach your blog, your feed and your social accounts from the same place.
A social media scheduling API with scoped keys
Create a key in your workspace settings and give it only the scopes it needs. The key is shown once. Send it in the X-API-Key header. A key belongs to one workspace and only sees that workspace's accounts and data.
Rate limits and expiry are set per key, so a CI job can have a short-lived key that cannot do anything else.
- Create a scoped key. Open Workspace, Settings, API keys. Pick the scopes the job needs and copy the key.
- Check the connection. Call the whoami endpoint with the key to confirm which workspace and scopes it has.
- Publish or schedule. Send posts to your connected accounts from your own code, and read analytics back.
The full request examples are on the Developers page.
Give each job the least access it needs
Scopes are how you keep automation safe. The same seven scopes apply to API keys and to assistant connections, and a key never gets more than you approved when you created it.
A release-notes job that only publishes needs to write posts and upload media. A reporting script that only reads numbers needs nothing more than the analytics scope.
- connections:read lists the connected accounts and their health.
- posts:read and posts:write read and create posts.
- media:upload brings images and video into your media library.
- analytics:read reads workspace metrics.
- content:read and content:write search and save reusable content.
Because every key belongs to one workspace, a leaked key for one client or product never exposes another. Rotate or expire it without touching anything else.
Let an AI assistant draft and schedule
Add SocialPatra as a custom connector in an assistant that supports remote MCP servers. You sign in, pick the workspace and approve the scopes. The connection is bound to that one workspace.
Connecting or disconnecting social accounts stays in the web app. An assistant can read, post and report, but it cannot change what is connected.
| Action | Scope |
|---|---|
| List connected accounts and find ones that need a reconnect | connections:read |
| Create, publish or schedule a post | posts:write, media:upload |
| Import an image or video from a URL | media:upload |
| List drafts, read post status, find top posts | posts:read |
| Read workspace metrics over a date range | analytics:read |
| Search or save reusable content | content:read, content:write |
The connector setup and the full tool list are on the MCP page.
Cross-post a technical blog from your RSS feed
Add the feed of your engineering blog and SocialPatra turns each new entry into a post for the accounts you choose. You decide how often the feed is checked: in real time, hourly or daily.
New entries can land as drafts for review, or publish on their own. Drafts are the default.
Keyword filters let you skip entries you do not want to promote, such as internal notes.
You can add UTM tracking to the links so you can see which channel sent the readers.
Publish to Dev.to and Hashnode
Both platforms connect with your own API key, and both need an article title. Write the article in Markdown; images are added as Markdown image links.
| Option | Dev.to | Hashnode |
|---|---|---|
| Tags | Up to 4 | Yes |
| Canonical URL | Yes | Yes |
| Subtitle | No | Yes |
Set the canonical URL to your own blog, so search engines credit the original when the same article also appears on a community site.
What teams automate
Most developer teams start small. A release script posts a short note with a link when a version ships. A weekly job reads the best posts of the week and saves a summary to the content library. An assistant checks which accounts need a reconnect before the launch day.
None of this needs a new tool for your team to learn. The calendar, the drafts and the analytics stay in the same workspace, and the code only adds to them.
- Announce a release from CI with a narrow, short-lived key.
- Ask an assistant to draft three versions of a launch post, then schedule the one you pick.
- Pull top-performing posts into a weekly report.
- Cross-post every new engineering blog entry as a draft for review.
A workflow for a developer-relations team
- Publish the article on your own site. Your RSS feed picks it up as a draft.
- Review the draft, adjust the wording for each network, and approve it.
- Cross-post the full article to Dev.to and Hashnode with the canonical URL set.
- For release notes, let a CI job call the API with a narrow key, or ask an assistant over MCP to draft the announcement for you to check.
Everything stays in one workspace, so the same calendar shows the blog cross-posts, the release news and the social posts around them.
Frequently asked questions
Does SocialPatra have a social media scheduling API?
Yes. A REST API with scoped, per-workspace keys lets your own code publish, schedule and read analytics. Rate limits and expiry are set per key.
Can an AI assistant post for me?
Yes, through the hosted MCP server. You approve the scopes and pick the workspace when you connect, and the assistant cannot change which accounts are connected.
Can I cross-post my technical blog automatically?
Yes. Add your blog feed and each new entry becomes a draft or a published post on the accounts you choose. Drafts are the default so you can review first.
Which plan includes the API and MCP?
Both are paid-plan features. The plan shown at the top of this page is read from our current plan settings, and the pricing page lists every plan.
Can a key see more than one workspace?
No. A key belongs to one workspace and only sees that workspace's accounts and data.
How do I connect Dev.to and Hashnode?
With your own API key from each site, because both connect with API-key authentication rather than a sign-in screen. Once connected, the account is available for posting like any other.
