The first line matters most because many feeds cut the text after a short preview. Lead with the point, then add context, then the call to action.

Length limits and reading habits differ by platform, so one caption rarely fits everywhere. Trim for short formats, expand for platforms where people read, and keep hashtags and mentions purposeful rather than decorative.
Read the caption on a phone before you publish. Long blocks of text are hard to scan, so use short paragraphs and line breaks. Put any link or hashtag where the platform handles it well, and check that the text still makes sense if the image does not load.
