Engagement

Engagement is any action people take on your post: likes, comments, shares, saves and clicks.

Engagement shows that a post made someone stop and respond. Comments and shares usually signal stronger interest than a like, and saves show that people found the post worth keeping.

Engagement in practice

Count it, but do not chase it blindly. A post that asks a pointless question can earn comments and no value. Look at which kinds of posts bring the actions that match your goal.

Different actions answer different goals. Comments mean people want to talk, saves mean the post is worth coming back to, shares extend your audience, and clicks bring visits. Decide which action your goal needs and judge each post by that one, not by the total.

Remember that engagement also goes the other way. Replying to comments and joining conversations on other accounts is part of building an audience, and it often brings more attention than another post would.
