Algorithm

A social media algorithm is the set of rules a platform uses to decide which posts people see.

Each platform ranks posts for each viewer using signals such as who they interact with, what they watched to the end, and how recent the post is. The exact rules are not public and they change without notice, so any guide that promises a formula is guessing.

Algorithm in practice

What stays steady is the goal: show people content they will spend time on. Posts that earn real reactions, comments and saves early tend to travel further than posts that are merely published on time. Plan around audience behaviour, not around a rumour about this month’s ranking change.

Because you cannot see inside it, treat the algorithm as a source of hints rather than rules. Watch which of your own posts last longest, note the pattern, and repeat what works. Official platform help pages are the only reliable source on what a platform says it ranks.
