Alt text
Alt text is a short written description of an image, read aloud by screen readers.
It makes a post usable for people who are blind or have low vision, and it shows in place of the image when the file does not load. Good alt text describes what matters in the picture in a sentence or two and does not start with “image of”.
Alt text in practice
Several platforms let you attach alt text to each image in a post. Write it for the image’s purpose: if a chart is the point, state the finding, not only “a bar chart”. Decorative images can be left without any, and text that is already in the caption does not need repeating.
