Social listening

Social listening is tracking mentions and conversations about your brand, topics and rivals across platforms.

It goes beyond your own notifications to find posts that name you without tagging you, questions in your field and shifts in how people feel about you.

Social listening in practice

Choose a short list of terms to follow: your name, product names, common misspellings and a few topic phrases. Review them on a routine, and pass real issues to the person who can fix them.

Listening is most useful when it leads to action: a reply to a customer, a note to the product team, or an idea for a post. Keep a log of what you find and what you did about it, so patterns become clear after a few weeks.

Be careful with what you collect. Public posts are fine to read and respond to, but do not copy personal details into spreadsheets or reuse people’s posts without permission.
