Social media manager
A social media manager is the person responsible for a brand’s social accounts and results.
They plan content, publish it, answer comments and messages, and report on what the accounts achieve. In small companies one person does all of it; larger teams split it into writers, designers and community staff.
Social media manager in practice
Good managers write clearly, read analytics without being fooled by vanity numbers, and know when to hand a problem to someone else. Freelancers and agencies often take the role for several clients.
If you are hiring or taking on the role, ask for examples of results tied to goals, not only follower counts. Agree who approves posts, how fast replies are expected, and how often you will review analytics together.
The role often grows into community management, reporting and customer support. Be clear about the boundaries early, including what the manager can post without approval and who to call out of hours if something goes wrong.
