AI Generate: write social posts in seconds

A full walkthrough of SocialPatra's AI Generate page: turn a prompt, a block of text, or a URL into a ready-to-post caption with optional image and hashtags.

You sit down to post and the cursor just blinks. You know roughly what you want to say. Turning that into a caption that actually reads well, for the platform you're posting to, is the part that eats your afternoon.

SocialPatra's AI Generate page exists for that exact gap. You give it a starting point, it writes the post, and you send it straight to the composer. This is a walkthrough of what it does, how each input mode works, and where it fits if you're a solo creator or an agency juggling a dozen client accounts.

What AI Generate actually does

AI Generate is a standalone page in your workspace. You pick how you want to start, type or paste your input, and it returns a finished post you can copy, tweak, or push into the composer with one click. Text comes back right away. If you ask for an image too, that runs as a separate job and lands a few seconds later.

It's built around three input modes, and the mode you pick changes what the AI does with what you give it.

Three ways to start a post

Prompt

Describe the post you want in plain language. Something like "a launch post for our new pricing" or "a Friday tip about batching content." The AI writes the caption from that description. This is the fastest way in when you have an idea but no draft.

Text

Paste in raw content you already have. A paragraph from a newsletter, notes from a call, a rough draft you wrote on your phone. The AI reshapes it into a post instead of inventing one from scratch. Useful when the substance exists and you just need it tightened into social-ready copy.

URL

Drop in a link to an article or a page. SocialPatra reads it, shows you a quick preview with the title, description, and a word count, then writes a post that summarizes or promotes it. If the page has a share image, that image comes along too so your post isn't naked text.

I run one Instagram and a newsletter. I paste the newsletter URL, get a caption, and I'm done before my coffee's cold.

The two toggles that shape the output

Whatever mode you're in, you have two switches before you hit generate:

  • Include hashtags — on by default. The AI adds relevant hashtags to the end of the post. Turn it off for platforms where hashtags read as clutter.
  • Generate image — off by default. Switch it on and SocialPatra also creates an image to match the post. The image arrives as its own job, usually within about half a minute, and shows up next to your text.

If you used URL mode and the page already had a share image, you'll see that even without the generate-image toggle. The generated image, when you ask for one, takes priority over the page's own image.

Refining what you get back

The first draft is rarely the last word, and that's fine. AI Generate is built to iterate. If the caption is close but too long, or too stiff, or missing the angle you wanted, you can ask for another pass instead of starting over. The AI keeps the current content in mind and adjusts it rather than throwing it away and writing something unrelated.

A useful rhythm: generate once to break the blank page, read it, then refine in small moves. Shorten it. Make it punchier. Lead with the benefit. Each pass builds on the last. Because the refinement steps aren't saved to your library on every iteration, you can experiment freely without filling the library with half-finished drafts. Only the clean generations land there.

The URL preview, in detail

URL mode does a small but helpful thing before it writes anything. As you paste a link, SocialPatra fetches the page and shows you a preview card: the page title, its description, the site name, the share image if there is one, and a word count for the article. That last number is a quiet signal. A 2,000-word essay and a 200-word announcement want different posts, and seeing the length up front helps you judge what the AI is working from.

If the preview looks wrong, say the link is to a login wall or a page that didn't load cleanly, you'll know before you generate instead of after. Fix the URL, watch the preview update, then write the post.

What you can do with the result

Once the post is on screen you have a few choices. Copy it to your clipboard if you just want the text. Or hit the button that opens the post composer with everything prefilled, the caption and any generated image carried straight over, so you can pick accounts, set a schedule, and publish.

Generated posts also land in your Content Library automatically. So a caption you made on Tuesday is still there next month when you want to reuse or remix it. You don't have to save anything by hand.

How the image generation works

Text and images move at different speeds, so SocialPatra treats them differently. Your caption is ready almost instantly. An image takes longer to render, so it runs as a background job with a rough estimate of around 30 seconds. You don't sit and wait on a frozen screen. The page tracks the job and drops the image in as soon as it's done, with the status updating live.

If a job is taking too long or you change your mind, you can cancel it. And if an image ever fails to render, you get a clear message rather than a silent blank, so you can just try again. Either way your caption is already there and usable.

How it plays out in real work

For a solo creator, AI Generate is a starting block. You're not handing your voice to a robot. You're skipping the blank page, getting a draft in front of you, then editing it down to sound like you in the composer.

For an agency, each client sits in its own workspace, so generated posts and the library stay separated per client. A team member can paste a client's blog URL, get three platform-ready drafts, and route them into that client's approval flow without ever mixing accounts.

Captions and hashtags inside the composer too

AI Generate isn't the only place the AI helps. Inside the composer you can improve an existing caption or generate hashtags on demand. When you improve a caption you can aim it at a specific platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok), pick a tone, set the length, and decide whether to add emojis or a call to action.

The available tones are professional, casual, funny, inspirational, and formal. Length runs short, medium, or long. For hashtags you choose how many you want, anywhere from 1 to 30, with 10 as the default.

FAQ

Do I need my own AI account or API key?

No. AI Generate runs on SocialPatra's managed AI, so there's nothing to set up. You type and generate.

Can it generate video?

Not yet. Right now AI Generate produces text and, optionally, an image. Video generation is on the roadmap but isn't live, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than imply it works.

Will the post be tailored to each platform?

The AI writes a strong general draft, and when you improve a caption inside the composer you can target a specific platform and tone. From the composer you then choose which connected accounts to post to.

Are my generated posts saved anywhere?

Yes. Posts you generate are added to your workspace's Content Library automatically, so you can find, reuse, or remix them later without saving them by hand.
